Blogmas day 18 – The Christmas Tag!

I’m on a bit of a come down today. As I’ve mentioned previously, this is the first Christmas I won’t be trekking back to my parents home for, and this weekend just gone they came up to Aberdeen and I played host. As it turns out I can cook a turkey, although I should definitely check for giblets and maybe not cook the bag whilst it’s still inside the turkey… Still, the meal was pretty darn good, if I do say so myself! And my parents had a great time. I was really sad to see them go as it felt like I didn’t get enough time with them. Even so it was a very busy weekend, and I’m so behind on organization so I needed a nice, chill post for day 18 of Blogmas.

The lovely Claire of The Pram Shed tagged me in the Christmas tag, and I thought it would fit in perfectly with today. The tag is so simple – Just answer the questions, tag a few friends and pass it on! It’s a lovely way to get in the festive mood!

So without further delay, here we go!

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

Definitely Love Actually! I love how not all of the stories show happy endings and show more of the realities and heartbreak associated with love, rather than being a really soppy film. (I wrote about all my favourite Christmas Movies here!)

Have you ever had a white Christmas?

I remember one where the snow lasted, but it had frozen over by that point so it wasn’t a “true” white Christmas. Close though!

Where do you usually spend your holiday?

I usually spend it at my parents house in Colchester. But this year I’m spending it with my boyfriend and his mum, just outside of Aberdeen. It’s the first year away from family, but we’ve spent the last 2 Christmases apart and it’s time we start alterning who we spend it with.

What’s your favourite Christmas song?

Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl. I explain why here.

Do you open any presents on Christmas eve?

No, that’s not Christmas. Although my parents have bought a few family Christmas presents on occassion that we’ve opened on Christmas eve, right before bed, so they’re ready on Christmas morning.

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Rudolph, Dasher, Donner, Dancer, Prancer, Blitzen, Vixen, Cupid… I think that’s all of them!

What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

I wrote about my family Christmas traditions here, but my favourite, which I’m carrying over to my Boyfriend’s family, is opening our presents throughout the day rather than all at once. It makes the Christmas magic last all day!

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Fake. Screw going to get a new tree every year! I have a 7ft luxury tree that looks great and I already have to keep dragging the cat off of it. Getting a real one would just be a nightmare!

What’s your favourite holiday food/treat/sweet?

Pigs in blankets. And big boxes of chocolate. Christmas is the only time I genuinely want to eat a lot of Chocolate!

Be honest. Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?

I do enjoy giving gifts, but right now, with my student budget, I prefer receiving. But I love it when you get the gift just right and get to watch the recipients face light up when they unwrap it.

What’s the best Christmas present you’ve ever received?

Probably my Pandora bracelet – I get a new charm every year from my parents and it’s one of my favourite presents to unwrap. But my sister got me a Poncho blanket once and I’ve never used a present more in my life!

What’s your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

Iceland! I’d love to go where snow is guaranteed, you can spend Christmas day in a Hot Spring and go and see the Northern Lights. It must be magical at Christmas!

Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

I’m a pro at wrapping square-shaped or rectangular presents – I used to work in retail and got taught how to gift wrap. Unusual shapes though will look like I’ve just screwed up the sides…

What’s your most memorable Christmas memory?

A few years ago, my nephew was one and didn’t really understand Christmas. I’d given my now ex-boyfriend a few books for his present, and my nephew picked up each one, looked at it, tossed them all onto the floor and then started rubbing my then-boyfriend’s face. We think he trying to say “Josh smooth!”, but he ended up shouting “Josh pooed!” over and over again. It was hilarious!

What made you realise the truth about Christmas?

My parents once got careless and used the same wrapping paper on their presents to me, and also on Father Christmas’s presents to me. Their excuse of “Father Christmas is very busy – he asked us to wrap his presents this year” didn’t float…

What makes the holidays special for you?

Getting to spend time with my family! It’s the most fun day of the year!

Plate of gingerbread biscuits

So, who’s next for the Christmas tag? I nominate:

Emma at Em Rambles

Iga at Iga Berry

Monique at Renting the Rain

Emmy at Misadventurous Mummy

Stacey at Stacey in the Sticks

Leighanne at Bump and Beyond

Laura at Miss L J Beauty

Candace at Us 3 by the Sea

Hope you guys enjoy this tag as much as I did!
