A Little Update – Where I’ve Been

Those eagle-eyed among you may have noticed it’s been about a month since I last uploaded anything. Circumstances really forced me to take a break from blogging, and if you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you’ll know my deadlines from University piled up and I struggled to keep on top of it. Prioritizing meant that I had to shelve the blog for a bit. Following the end of this university term, I also took a trip home, and then a week off from everything. And getting back into it has been a little hard!

Not only did I stop visiting my blog to even update the plugins or clear out my spam, I also pretty much jumped away from social media. I completely ejected myself from the blogosphere for a month because I didn’t have time to balance essay writing, presentation making, group work, and lectures with blog writing and social media management. Poor effort going forward, but my blog has always eaten into my free time, and that was time I really needed back. Blogging might be a passionate hobby, but it’s also hard work. My brain needed a break, and blogging took that hit.

This certainly isn’t the first blogging break I’ve taken – I swear if there was a blogging award for “Most Breaks Taken” I’d be a serious contender! I’m always a firm supporter of blogging breaks, especially if blogging isn’t a full time job for you and it’s in your best interest to step away for a bit. I also did my least favourite thing of letting numbers get to me, and stressed myself out about the fact that my Twitter and Instagram follower counts have stagnated. Stepping away from both may have meant the quality of my content on those platforms went down. But overall, I’m happy I stepped away. I’m back with a clarified mindset and ready to start again.

Taking a break didn’t see me go into complete blogging shut-down though, although I considered it. Before I said enough for now, I had my first brand collaboration since January with Sara at Rituals Home. And in the pipeline was another collaboration with another brand, that I’ll be posting on Friday. Finally, out of the blue, some products arrived in the post which I did post on social media – some lovely hair care bits from Organic Shop. I’ve also got 2 blogging events coming up that I am so excited for! So, my second year of blogging, despite a low February and a hefty break, is off to a great start! This week I also migrate my hosting, so I’m ready for another year of content production. Despite feeling like I’m going nowhere, my blog has really grown – even when I’m not promoting, my daily view count has upped, and I’m getting noticed.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is taking a break may have felt like a cop out, but it’s not. I might have drawn a blank about what my “Welcome Back” post would be (I’m not entirely happy with this one but I had no other ideas!), but I’ve not lost my enthusiasm. And now, with a few new things going and university so nearly done for the summer, I’m ready to put my all back into this blog!

Taking a break whenever needed is always ok. It’s a hobby and it should be a pleasure not a chore but I am selfishly glad to see you back!
